Journey's in Life

By Rabbi Yosef Serebryanski

(Genesis 12:1) “Lech Lecho” means go for or to yourself. In our journey through life some people hear a voice guiding them, some feel a force that is guiding them, and some do not feel any guidance other than themselves. Whatever the situation is, every movement on earth is guided by something beyond our comprehension. We may think that we have free choice but the deeper we go the more we see how things are not random.

Trust and Faith is something that reaches beyond our current experiences. One thing that we can do with faith is transform parts of our nature. Blind faith can be devastating and therefore using the wisdom of Torah to guide faith is important for balance. We can transform our physical urges and desires and elevate them to a more spiritual plane or even connect them with the origins of our source of life. (Song of Songs 8:10) “My faith is firm as a wall … then I will find peace and wholeness.”

Our main purpose here is to work with the physical realm and reveal the Creator’s life force in everything. In our journey we go places that may be strange or have an opposite movement to our own but when we return home, we are stronger and wiser.

We live in a time when (Jeremiah 1:14) “From that which is hidden (the North) evil will be opened upon all the inhabitants of the land.” Evil has been concealed for many years and is now becoming obvious. With each day more corruption is being revealed. This allows people to see how blind they were, and it also gives people a chance to make choices that are part of restoring balance in the world.

May we merit speedily to another double expression like “lech lecho” (Zechariah 6:12) “A man whose name is Tzemach from under him will flourish (Yitzmach) and he will build the sanctuary of Hashem.
