The Truth of Words Matter
Understanding Hebrew letters and words in the Torah requires recognizing their mystical significance, numerical value (gematria), and root-based meanings. Each of the 22 Hebrew letters carries symbolic and spiritual power. These letters combine to form word-roots—most often two- or three-letter foundations—from which meanings expand and unfold. For example, the word Torah derives from the root ירה (yarah), meaning “to teach” or “to direct,” revealing Torah not merely as law, but as Divine guidance.
Every Hebrew word in the Torah emerges from these root structures, which can be conjugated and transformed to express multiple layers of meaning. This is one of the central reasons Jewish tradition teaches that the letters themselves possess mystical power: they are the very building blocks of the words of Torah, and through them, Divine wisdom is transmitted into the world.
To gain a deeper understanding of what HaShem is truly communicating in His Torah, we must recognize that the Hebrew language of the Torah is frequently misunderstood or oversimplified in translation. Even the most skilled translators face limitations, as most languages lack the capacity to convey the full depth, nuance, and multi-layered meaning embedded in the original Hebrew. As a result, much of the spiritual blueprint contained within HaShem’s Torah can only be fully accessed through the sacred language in which it was given.
